Ōtepoti Dunedin

Between April and June, over 2000 new items were uploaded to the Government Digital Archive by our Dunedin Team. Digitisation highlights are:

Ōtautahi Christchurch

We recently completed a pilot project involving five Nelson Deeds Books from Series 23673. Deeds Books are used by a range of researchers including genealogists, local historians, surveyors, lawyers and other professionals.

Digitisation on demand requests kept our small team very busy in May and June, with highlights including charming architectural drawings requested by a local housing developer.

Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland

Digitisation work by our Tāmaki Team focused on education files recording the history of schools and students, and land records. These included:

  • Maori Schools building and site files – Series 1001

  • Auckland Education School building and site files – Series 1050

  • Auckland deeds registers – Series 23641

  • North Auckland Land District roll plans – Series 23916. Roll plans can be useful for locating original land blocks and allotments, and seeing how ownership has changed.

Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington

In Te Whanganui-a-Tara our focus was on land records and managing two outsourced projects. We also continued our work on transmissive materials (negatives) and registers from our register room:

  • Old Land Claims - series 16153

  • Māori Land Court minute books

  • Alien re-entry certificates - series 8840

  • Seafarers Certificates and Licenses - series 7612

  • New Z Forest Service 'M' series negatives - 6395

  • Register room volumes.
