Review of protected records for local authorities update
Read our second update on our work with ALGIM to review the List of protected records for local authorities and accompanying Explanatory notes.
12 January 2024
We’ve been undertaking a second targeted review with those who provided feedback on our first drafts, as well as the Association of Local Government Information Managers (ALGIM), to revise and improve the List of Protected Records.
Consultation process to date
Following our initial consultation on a revised List of Protected Records for Local Authorities (the List) and Explanatory Notes (the Notes) from 18 April 2023 until 31 July 2023, we circulated updated versions of the List and the Notes to the 32 respondents who had provided feedback.

We wanted to know if we had appropriately addressed the concerns raised and sought their help to make further improvements. We undertook this targeted review from 29 September to 30 November 2023, and received 13 responses.
We want your final feedback
We are now asking for final feedback on the updated draft versions of the List and the Notes, and we want to hear your thoughts. Using our form, please share your feedback and any questions for us or ALGIM before 5pm, 1 March 2024 by emailing rkconsultation@dia.govt.nz.
