Social media transparency statement
Learn how we use social media, how we keep our channels safe and politically neutral, and what to do if you have a concern.
We use social media to support the three focus areas laid out in our Archives 2057 strategy:
taking archives to the people
upholding transparency
building systems together.

We use social media to:
communicate with stakeholders
inform people about what we do
help people access the records we hold.
How we moderate our social media
We welcome different points of view on our social media, but we moderate and delete comments or content when we need to. We won't tolerate content that is:
offensive
harmful
in breach of someone's privacy
damaging in any other way.
Private and direct messages
We monitor private and direct messages on our social media channels. We're respectful, neutral and factual in our replies to messages.
Preserving our neutrality
Like all public sector organisations, Archives New Zealand is politically neutral. All our staff comply with our social media strategy, which explains the importance of our neutrality.
When we follow, like or share content by a person or organisation, we're not endorsing their views.
Concerns and complaints
If you have a concern about our use of social media, you can raise it by:
emailing archives.social-media@dia.govt.nz
sending us a direct message on the social media channel you're concerned about.
We deal with all complaints as quickly as we can.
