Carl Thorwald Laugesen

Carl Thorwald Laugesen was born in Marton in 1900. He studied at the Canterbury School of Art in the 1920s, then worked in poster design and commercial art in Wellington. He served in the New Zealand Army Home Defence for three years during the Second World War.

Carl Thorwald Laugesen was born in Marton in 1900. He studied at the Canterbury School of Art in the 1920s, then worked in poster design and commercial art in Wellington. He served in the New Zealand Army Home Defence for three years during the Second World War.

Post–war Laugesen taught at the Wellington Technical College of Art for eight years, during which time he became a professional artist specialising in landscapes and portraits. Some of his Second World War artworks were purchased by Archives New Zealand.

Laugesen died in 1987.
