The Red Cross
Samples from the New Zealand Red Cross Annual Report during the Red Cross Centennial Year of 1959.
The International Committee of the Red Cross was the idea of Swiss businessman Henri Dunant. After witnessing the lack of medical care for the casualties from the 1859 Battle of Solferino, he spent several days tending to them, himself.
Today the Red Cross/Red Crescent operates in 186 countries and has around 97 million volunteers.
