Issues of the day were generally dealt with by quiet diplomacy, through respected Maori leaders.
However some issues made the headlines and Maori expectations of full participation in all aspects of society increased after World War II.
The District Health Nurse visits Te Araroa and other Maori settlements and schools on the East Coast checking on peoples general welfare as well as possible polio and tuberculosis outbreaks.
