This exhibition showcases some of the many records held at Archives New Zealand in relation to Rt. Hon Norman Kirk.
Norman Eric Kirk (1923-1974) or ‘Big Norm’ as he became known as, was a larger than life New Zealand Prime Minister (1972-1974) who died while in office at the age of just 51. He was one of the stalwarts of the New Zealand Labour Party, being an MP for Lyttelton (1957-1969), Sydenham, (1969-1974) and excelling as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1972-1974).
This collection showcases some of the highlights of his collection, featuring records relating to many of the major themes of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Simply click on the gallery to see records related to each theme.
