Letter from the Provincial Secretary to the Chairman of the Municipal Council about the transfer of properties in Market Place (Victoria Square) from the Provincial Government to the Council, August 1864. The central portion of what is now Victoria Square was in the 1860s home to the police barracks and gaol, immigration barracks, main Post Office and fire station, as well as the market stalls themselves.
