Available below is some relevant background information to the Chief Archivist’s review into the Prime Minister's recordkeeping practices in regard to text messages, such as the Terms of Reference. Also included is the final report of an earlier 2006 review into systems and processes for managing Ministers’ papers and security classified information at Archives New Zealand.
Archives New Zealand has also provided and regularly updates advice and training for ministerial and parliamentary staff specifically on the transfer of Ministers’ papers since before the timeframe of the Chief Archivist’s review, which is from 2008. In 2013, responsibility for this recordkeeping advice was moved internally within Archives New Zealand from the Description and Discovery team to the Disposal and Acquisition team. Consequently the advice was updated as was the hand-out for the 2014 pre-election training presentation for the Senior Private Secretaries.
