Archives New Zealand has developed these standards to ensure that full and accurate records of New Zealand public offices’ and local authorities’ business activities are created and managed effectively and continue to be accessible and useable over time.
S2: Storage Standard [Mandatory for Public Offices and Local Authorities]
This standard sets minimum requirements for storage of physical records and archives under the Public Records Act.
S4: Access Standard
This standard sets out legislative requirements and guidance on best practices for the provision of access to public archives and local authority archives.
S5: Digital Recordkeeping Standard
The Digital Recordkeeping Standard (DRS) establishes principles and good practice requirements for creating and managing records in digital systems, in accordance with the Public Records Act.
S6: Digitisation Standard
This standard sets out requirements for digitisation processes for public offices and local authorities to support the requirements of the Electronic Transactions Act 2002 and Public Records Act.
S7: Create and Maintain Recordkeeping Standard [Mandatory for Public Offices and Local Authorities]
This standard specifies minimum requirements for the creation and maintenance of records under the Public Records Act.
S8: Electronic Recordkeeping Metadata Standard [Mandatory for Public Offices and Local Authorities]
This standard establishes principles and minimum requirements for creating and managing recordkeeping metadata in electronic environments, in accordance with the Public Records Act.
S9: Disposal Standard [Mandatory for Public Offices and Local Authorities]
The disposal standard sets out minimum requirements determining how public offices and local authorities dispose of records. It supports the requirements covering disposal of records set out in the Public Records Act 2005, and applies to all records – whether paper or digital.
