The Local Government Schedule has been refreshed and replaced by the ‘List of Protected Records for Local Authorities’. The ‘List’ was issued as a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, 28 August 2013, No. 117, page 3123
A set of ‘Explanatory Notes’ has also been issued by Archives New Zealand and designed to sit alongside the ‘List’ to provide further context and advice about the practical application of it. These ‘Notes’ replace the previous set of ‘Explanatory Notes' issued.
Sections 40 and 41 of the Public Records Act (2005) apply specifically to local authority protected records.
It is intended that records management staff use this ‘List’ to develop guidance for general staff to perform the disposal actions in accordance with their recordkeeping requirements under sections 17 and 18 of the Public Records Act (2005).
Where there are concerns with implementing this 'List', staff should contact their records management team, who can contact Archives New Zealand.
