Joint Digital Preservation Strategy for Archives New Zealand and the National Library of New Zealand

The ongoing security and viability of New Zealand’s digital documentary heritage and public archives is strengthened by the newly signed Joint Digital Preservation Strategy for Archives New Zealand and the National Library of New Zealand.

Chief Archivist Greg Goulding and Chief Librarian Bill Macnaught have signed a strategy which will be critical to the way digital information is managed now and in the future. The strategy is the foundation which will ensure an enduring digital record of government decisions and activities. It will be complemented by policies covering day-to-day digital preservation approaches and processes, while ensuring that the right material is saved in the best way, is identifiable and useable for the long-term.

The strategy was developed jointly by the National Library and Archives New Zealand. It underpins the collaborative work of the National Library and Archives New Zealand in the digital environment. It also ensures digital content is managed and preserved in a way that reflects its status as a knowledge asset and tāonga of New Zealand.
